3. Subtract the value for discounts from total sales to find net sales

Deduct any discount or promotion values from the total sales to find the net sales. In the example of a small business with a total sales of $4,000 for one month, the value for promotions is $475, resulting from the buy-one-get-one-free promotion. You can subtract $475 from $4,000 to find the net sales of $3,525 for the month.
